What? No Website!

Statement or Question?

Before I decided to move back to Oxford, I would come for long visits. Out of habit mostly, I would get personal things done in Atlanta before leaving.  I didn't really rely on Oxford for more than great food and great conversation.  As I started to prepare for my move, I did what millions of Americans do, and went to the Internet to start arranging some of the basic things I would need like housing, utilities, and childcare.  Although, I found the various Oxford MS websites helpful, I was shocked that there were not more local businesses online.  I could not find a single daycare facility online which was shocking. Even a simple site could provide basic information like scheduling, wait lists, and admittance requirements.

After being here for a few weeks, my grooming needed to be touch up, so I Googled "waxing in Oxford" and nothing came up. I asked a friend and she referred a salon. I made it a point to ask at my appointment about their web presence. I did. "We have a Facebook page and we come up when people Google us. That's it really.

Well that's true, but that only works when the person doing the searching knows to put your name into the search engine.  "We believe in word of mouth around here." my friend later said.  In both cases, I figured things out. My child is in daycare (more on that later) and I found a salon, but what other options am I missing out on getting my information from friends instead of the Internet?

I want to know your thoughts.  Do you think every business needs a website?  Please leave a comment below.
